Hurricane Ida
Recovery Work and Church Damage Assessment
Dear Friends,
It is now two weeks following the landfall of Hurricane Ida. While we are all still trying to find our center, our diocese has been hard at work assisting with the immediate needs of our community. We are very aware that our friends and neighbors in the hardest-hit areas are going to be deeply affected for months to come. How we will go about helping one another will be a journey that we will take day by day. As a diocese, we are looking into both short-term as well as longer-term relief and recovery activities.
Diocesan staff, diocesan disaster response team, and volunteers have been on the ground assessing the critical needs following the hurricane and conducting damage assessments. We offer to you an initial report on the disaster assessment of church property. You can read it by
clicking here. The assessment is ongoing and we will continue to update the information as needed.
We received an initial $25,000 grant from Episcopal Relief and Development for immediate emergency use and we are in the process of distributing that assistance to our most vulnerable neighbors. Several churches have served as distribution or coordination sites for hurricane relief.

Our neighboring dioceses, the Diocese of Western Louisiana, the Diocese of Texas, and the Diocese of Mississippi, have been instrumental in providing volunteer teams and evacuee support. We will continue to partner with them in the days to come.
Immediately following the storm, Church Insurance has been on the ground in Louisiana working with congregations to assess the damage and provide remediation work.
