St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Family Ministry Coordinator Summary Description
The Full Time Family Ministry Coordinator is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of a vibrant and active ministry for children, youth, and their parents. This position will work directly with the Rector, already established Family Ministry Committee, and lay volunteers to create, manage, and coordinate all formation programs, outreach, and fellowship events for youth and parish families.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate and plan intergenerational events such as VBS, Trunk or Treat, and holiday celebrations, while creating new events and programs to provide fellowship and formation opportunities for our families
Hire and coordinate nursery workers to provide childcare on Sunday mornings and special events/holiday services
Choose and implement a Sunday school curriculum for all ages (2 – high school) including recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteer teachers
Coordinate diocesan Safeguarding program to ensure all volunteers have a current certificate on file
Complete oversight of comprehensive Jr High and Sr High youth groups including diocesan events such as Happening, summer mission trips, and coordinating with area Episcopal parishes for events
Reach out to new families and continuing communication to bring them into the church fold
Work with Outreach Committee to involve families and youth in parish-wide outreach projects in the Baton Rouge community
Communicating events and programs to the parish and community on our website and being active on all forms of social media to recruit new families and youth
Work with day school leadership and seek opportunities to strengthen the relationship between the church and school, and invite school families to be part of our church family
Plan intergenerational events and opportunities for the entire parish to enjoy fellowship together
Seek opportunities to support families and encourage parents to deepen their family’s spirituality at home
Recruiting and scheduling acolytes for Sunday services
Education/Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, 3 years experience leading a Christian education program working with children or youth, and be a faithful Christian committed to the Episcopal denomination and teachings. They must have strong organizational skills and be a team player to work across ministries. The ideal candidate should be a strong, energetic, and dependable leader; innovative and creative; and constantly looking for ways to expand this ministry.
