This year, we offer a virtual altar of repose following Maundy Thursday service. Although we will not have parishioners sit in person with the Holy Eucharist, we offer an image of our monstrance in the sanctuary which will sit in repose through the night here at St. Luke's.

PURPOSE:
The altar of repose is an altar where the Communion hosts consecrated on Maundy Thursday during the Mass of the Lord's Supper are placed, or "reserved", for use on the following day, Good Friday.

Between the time of Jesus' death and resurrection, mass is not celebrated, and so communion hosts cannot be consecrated. Any hosts used on Good Friday must have been consecrated previously.

At the Good Friday service, the Blessed Sacrament is available for Communion. After that service the altar of repose is dismantled.
